Child and Family Services (CFWS) In-Service: CFE and Court Preparation (Part 1)
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-
K1: Describe the various pathways of the dependency process by identifying different types of court proceedings and explaining the associated expectations, decisions, and legal standards for each.
-
K2: Describe the “reason to know” standard under ICWA, and how it impacts legal and department responsibilities.
-
S1: Demonstrate what to gather and how to synthesize case information that the court needs to make decisions.
-
S2: Complete court-specific components of the Comprehensive Family Evaluation by applying safety framework tools, clearly documenting department efforts and recommendations, and thoroughly assessing progress toward behavior change as compared to compliance with services.
You will navigate the court process effectively, engage in critical thinking, clearly document and articulate your assessments, and actively drive the case plan.
You will act ethically and with transparency. You will acknowledge that the legal process is designed to safeguard the due process rights of individuals and to protect families from government intervention, unless a child's basic rights to nurturing, health, or safety are jeopardized.
This is part 1 of a two-part class. Participation in both courses is necessary for credit. Participants need to register for part 1 and part 2 together as the same cohort.
Completion of the course confers 4 credit hours.
