By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • K3: Identify the roles of the court, legal parties, caregivers, service providers, and experts, and how each role is different.

  • S3: Show proper court etiquette in the courtroom and with court partners.

  • S4: Practice articulating the safety framework as it applies to court decisions and legal timelines.

  • S5: Practice articulating department efforts, assessments, and recommendations to court partners, and differentiate between progress toward behavior change and compliance with services

  • K4: Identify the strengths and weaknesses of a case plan and be prepared to respond.

  • K5: Recognize the role of supervision in: a. identifying case planning priorities that contribute to moving a case toward permanency b. setting limits on tasks that are not an efficient use of time c. balance case planning activities with required monthly contacts and documentation

You will navigate the court process effectively, engage in critical thinking, clearly document and articulate your assessments, and actively drive the case plan.

You will act ethically and with transparency. You will acknowledge that the legal process is designed to safeguard the due process rights of individuals and to protect families from government intervention, unless a child's basic rights to nurturing, health, or safety are jeopardized.

This is part 2 of a two-part class. Participation in both courses is necessary for credit. Participants need to register for part 1 and part 2 together as the same cohort.

Completion of the course confers 6 credit hours.
