CaRES Special Events: Caregivers - More Than Words: The Power of Non-Verbal Communication
What are you communicating when you don’t say a word? A raised eyebrow, crossed arms, a change in tone, or simply where you position yourself can send powerful messages— especially to children who have complex backgrounds. In this practical training, kinship caregivers and foster parents will discover how body language, facial expressions, posture, positioning, eye contact, and tone of voice influence communication and attachment. Learn to recognize the messages you may be sending, better understand the signals others are giving you, and use non-verbal communication intentionally to strengthen relationships and create greater safety and connection with the children in your care.
***If you are caring for a non-verbal child, it is suggested that you seek individualized treatment to enhance functional abilities.***
